Facebook has been awash with phone images of first day at school. Here’s a few I took of Sam just before his first day back, looking pristine in his new school uniform, proud and very excited to be going.

Thanks to my wonderful brother Richard Grinter, my website and branding has a new look. It’s taken the two of us months to design and perfect the idea, but I’m over the moon with the new look and how it can be used. Please check out the rest of my website to see how it looks.
These makers’ photography course will aim to cover looking at your individual style and how to translate that into images for your website and online marketing and selling. The photography will include lighting, composition, best use of your camera, postproduction of your images and presenting them for online use.
You may be a fantastic maker but do you want to learn how your images can tell the story of your products and sell them?
Come and join a small group of Makers, discuss your ideas and learn form an experienced professional photographer the secrets to those wow photographs. There will be preparation required before the session, and review sessions online afterwards, so you’re not left on your own and can bounce questions as you learn. Bring your product items with you, your camera or smartphone, and start taking images that will help to improve your online presence amongst the plethora of images on social media. Learn ways to present them online and look at your own style and branding.
Session 10am-3pm with mentoring follow up – £70 each (payable on booking)
Places are limited to keep the learning experience personal.
5th June – The Small Business Emporium, Denton
Millie Shaw is five and is full of fun. Millie is a very brave little girl. She was born with congenital abnormalities that she has been battling against for all of her life. She’s just turned five and is a little ray of sunshine.
I recently put out a call for a child model for a photosession and style I wanted to work on and refine. I asked for a five year old with blonde curly hair.
I put the call out on social media, on twitter’s #oldhamhour on a Monday evening. (#Oldhamhour is a special hour on a Monday evening that I actually set-up two years ago with the help of one other business Whittaker Design and a Charity ABC Diagnosis. With work and health commitments Lee from Whittaker Design Architects took over, and now it runs as a great way to meet with other local business and charity co-ordinators. )
Millie’s Grandma saw the call and suggested Millie. I believe she was wondering if I would be interested as Millie is disabled. I was more concerned that Millie wouldn’t get on with my dog that I wanted in the session. Millie actually has lung problems and so it was best not to bring the dog near her. As it was I managed to use a bit of photoshop wizardry and include Harvey in one of the images…. (continues under slideshow)
It was so lovely to meet Millie and her Grandma and Mum. Millie is five and full of fun. During the shoot we needed to be mindful of her abilities but with care and attention she managed to pose beautifully for a great range of images.
Since the session, Millie’s Grandma, Tory, has held a Charity Dinner in order to raise funds to get Millie to Disneyland. It was a great evening and lovely to meet more of her family and friends. Tory is organising a fashion show in November with Lucy Cobbs of Uppermill, and then another in the New Year. I will be supporting them through her efforts and hope you can too.
Millie and Tory deserve a very big treat.

This Thursday saw yet another great evening of Best Oldham Businesses. We gathered at Milan Bar in Lees for a private function, meeting with current members of The Best of Oldham brand and potential businesses looking to join us. Richard Taylor of the Best of Oldham introduced the evening and it’s current members, outlining the benefits of being part of the brand. He mentioned the latest initiatives to help to get our brands ‘out there’ and ones in the pipeline.
We then were treated to pie and chips and chatter between known and new businesses. Personally I may benefit from at least 4 connections including a Wedding enquiry, two staff image sessions for websites and a family photoshoot.
Here are images that hopefully tell the story of the evening and illustrate the energy that was very apparent.
Staff Images for your website and Business Profile images are a major part of my involvement with The Best of Oldham, telling the story of your business. Please contact me here and I’ll be happy to talk through with you how I can help.
The Suitcase Project is an initiative put together by Jude Gidney and inspired by the band The Suitcase Dwellers that were guests at her studio over the weekend of the April Woodend Studios Open Art Fair.
It involved photographing the majority of visitors to the studio, each being given the opportunity to interact with a vintage suitcase that is a prop in the studio. the interactions became more and more innovative as the weekend went on, each visitor trying to outdo the previous. At the end of the weekend we had a visit from one of the visiting artists that also works as a designer for a suitcase company. You will find her words about the history of the case below.
If you’d like to hear more about events happening at the studio please send me a quick email or text with the title Event Details Please
