This morning saw me at my Studio in Woodend Mill taking headshots of a local author. On introducing ourselves to each other, we actually realised we had a joint connection in his mother, an enthusiastic member of the Woodend Artists, of which I am Secretary. He’d found my services through googling for a Photographer in Manchester and it came up with studio, so that’s nice!
Now you may be thinking, ‘what’s she doing taking shots at his head?’ Headshots are the technical term used for images of someone’s head and shoulders for use in their portfolio, online avi or in this case for a cover of a book. After an initial chat about what he did and what his book was about, something very technical in the Music World, we viewed some book covers and discussed the varying ways that someone can come across in a headshot and how he wanted to appear in his. Below are a few shots that illustrate how different some one can appear – it’s all in the eye of the beholder, and something that as a Photographer I am very aware of.
These images all give off a different feel and message – what do you think? Friendly, intense, mysterious, happy-go-lucky, confident, approachable…..
And is it just the expression, I’ve caught, the pose, angle of shooting or is it the lighting and background?
And a couple more just for fun
