This is a blog I have been intending to write for ages about baby photography and how Saddleworth has inspired my work.Having lived in the Saddleworth area for over 12 years now, I have always been struck by the beauty of it’s rugged hills and landscapes. I’d like to say I could be eloquent in my language about the area, but images show so much better my thoughts. Recently speaking to a friend who is also a Morris man about his inspiration for his hat during the rushcart this year, he had adorned it with heather ‘ The colours of Saddleworth’ – I’d never heard anyone else talk about the area in this way except for myself. My very first website that a fellow photographer friend designed ( @origamiowl ) over 10yrs ago now, had a green background, Saddleworth green, fresh and vibrant.
In updating my portfolio, I wanted to embrace the colours. Initially I intended to photograph outside withadult models and a collaboration of make-up artists and hairdressers, but sadly my enthusiasm for the work wasn’t suitably infectious. But the need to update my pregnancy/baby photography portfolio has led me to use the inspiration and is proving great fun. Natural is the word, landscape, natural colours, natural light. Even the wraps I’m using have been dyed in locally picked blackberries. Baby photography gives me a great deal of satisfaction, watching a baby, such a perfect little bundle of potential and capturing in photographs, artistically and sympathetically to the parent’s requests.
