A month or so ago, Patricia form Gift of a Wedding Charity contacted me with two requests – 1. To become a trustee for her charity and 2. To create a poster for the Charity that could be used to encourage volunteers to get involved. The charity is pulling professionals and laypeople together in order to allow a couple, one of which is terminally ill, get married.
Patricia asked me if I could make a poster along the lines of the eye catching Red Nose Day images promoting that event this year.
This involved getting a range of Wedding professionals to the studio and photographing them each against a white background. Getting them together was no easy feat either, but 8 we managed to gather and the shoots took place over 3 days as people were available.
Once I had the images I chose the best of each person and then set about working on them in photoshop. I cut the shapes of the people and then arranged them on a white background. Then sizing them, to create a dynamic arrow shape with the bride’s dress central to the image.
Then I selected all of the figures and inverted, changed contrast and saturation until I had a layer that I could use as a shadow once flipped vertically. I changed the opacity, added a little blur and then a gradient mask to tapper the shadow as it receded from the light source.
Then to drop in a background. I started by using the logo, but Patricia and I felt it was too clumsy. Also it was decided to change the heights of the figures, and remove a couple to make the image more hard hitting. The figures that were removed will be used in a follow up poster, and will have pride of place in the front, so they don’t get away that lightly!
So I changed the background to a softer purple, and added the logo and writing with suggestions from a graphic designer. Once we had decided on which font suited the purpose we were away!
