Announcing the Winner of Baby or Toddler 2018:
Welcome to Baby or Toddler of 2018, the final part of the event that has been running throughout 2017 at the Reclamation Room, Lees Street, Uppermill.
In January 2017, I put out a call for babies and toddlers to come to the Reclamation Room every last Friday of the month. They were photographed and entered into a contest, and the most favoured baby or toddler was crowned as that Month’s winner. It has resulted in 7 winners, of which there is a final poll to find out who wins the ultimate prize of a year’s photography sessions with Jude Gidney Photography ( Quarterly sessions with a choice of images from the sessions worth over £600 to be taken during 2018).
The contest was always run on character of the baby or toddler, and all the babies and toddlers that entered are winners in my book!! I shall be offering all a prize for joining in.
The results of the poll will be announced in 7 days time (12/01/18 – voting closes at 12pm 12/01/18)
Here are the finalists. Please indicate your favourite by clicking the blue ‘send my choice’ button at the very bottom of all the images. You may choose more than one :

With the announcement of the new royal baby, the press has gone silly over baby information and in particular Tatler magazine has published what it sees as the poshests names that can be chosen. A lot of them are unpronounceable but why should that be a problem? Errr, teachers have so many names to remember and pronounce! What do you think of this list? Do you have a name in mind that you prefer?

I love to meet mums before they give birth, in order for them to get to know how I work and that their newborn baby during their newborn baby photography session will be in safe hands. It’s a quiet and calm time when mum can feel pampered and looking amazing.
If you’d like to have a chat about what it involves or book a session for yourself please just message me or ring on 07759 599134.
Don’t be another one that regrets she didn’t do it.
Beautiful babies, changing so quickly in the first year of their lives. From Newborns, sleepy, curly little characters to sitters and then up onto their feet. They’re all wonderful opportunities for capturing moments in their developing worlds.
Ten things to capture yourselves:
- first smile
- baby stretches
- little character traits that you may notice like wriggling their noses, or fanning out their hands
- first roll
- sitting progress from needing support to sitting alone
- first laugh
- playing with a favourite toy
- mode of transport be it crawling, shuffling or rolling
- first steps and expressions
These are all little moments that can easily be captured on a smartphone or camera. They may seem cute at the time but they’ll be wonderful to look back upon years later. Remember to back up your images or even get them printed as simple prints put into an album or in a printed book. Images on a computer or phone are easily lost!!

Welcome to the voting page for the Baby or Toddler of 2017.
Each month one baby or toddler will be chosen to be ‘baby or Toddler’ of the month depending on the number of votes.
You may vote for more than one at a time. Only one vote per baby or toddler will be accepted from an individual email per day. Each vote finishes on the Friday before the last Friday of the month.
The finalists of each month will all then be entered into a final vote. The outright winner will win a year’s worth of photoshoots worth over £600.

Pregnancy Casts and Newborn Baby Photography go well together. A lot of mums like to keep a record of their pregnancy but often feel awkward about baring all for photographs. My studio is warm and cosy, with sets that make taking photographs calm and easy. It’s wonderful to welcome a mum-to-be into the studio, encourage them to spend time thinking solely about what’s going on inside them, and help them to look beautiful on the outside. The change in them is amazing, as having that attention can be liberating.
Seeing my big-bellied self through Jude’s lens made me feel like one of those beautiful pregnant women! Jude made both my partner and I feel very relaxed and comfortable throughout the maternity photography session. She has captured a precious time in our lives which we can look back on and cherish forever. Looking forward to another session with our newborn baby very soon!
But it’s understandable that not every mum would like to remember it in this way. OR they may like to have both. The Pregnancy Cast is a cast taken of your bump, using soft textiles and hardening agent, and once hard, is beautifully decorated by art student Nat to your own design or one suggested by her.
And then when your precious baby arrives, your cast is a beautiful vessel to hold him or her in, with the use of soft blankets and padding, and with the expertise of a BANPAS recognised, BIPP registered photographer, your newborn baby photographs are in very safe hands.
Book a package now, even if you’ve only just found out the delightful news, as both are getting very booked up. Don’t be disappointed …. click here
As a professional photographer I am aware of the importance of constantly updating and renewing my knowledge and skills, and learning new ones especially for newborn baby photos.
Earlier this month I was lucky enough to take part in a workshop held by Tracy Willis, a world known award winning newborn photographer from Kent. The course involved 2 newborn babies, that Tracy posed, lit and talked us through safety and good procedure in the studio. We then each took images and a turn in soothing the babies.
The experience helped me to realise the wealth of knowledge I already have, as a Professional photographer for over 14 years and as a mother of 2, now grown up, boys. It also gave me tips and advice on improving my work and making the session flow more smoothly to improve your experience.
Here’s the result of the workshop, all editing and montage making my own. Please click on the image to view it large, thanks.
A baby session involves not only carefully ensuring that your baby is sleeping soundly, but carefully moving them into positions that they are used to being in in the womb. Now baby is very delicate, and it is possible to move your baby into uncomfortable positions. In an experts studio, your baby should be comfortable and there will be very little crying. So Mum and Dad, you can sit back and relax and even catch a few Zzzzzs. If you’re uncomfortable with your photographer, you’ll be uncomfortable in the session. Choose wisely as this will be the only time you can do this, babies grow quickly!
Please give me a call on 07759 599134 to talk through your session and how I’d handle it. There’s no alternative to speaking with the person you are entrusting your baby to.
A recent Cake Smash Photography session was great fun with the Mum bringing a chocolate cake that her one year old son loved. He needed no encouragement to dive in to the cake with his hands and proceed to smear it all around his face. He rewarded us with enormous, if not sticky, smiles. Teddies around him covered their eyes in horror.
Once he’d had enough of the cake, Mum and I cleaned him up as far as possible and then dunked him in a very bubbly bath. Mum then blew streams of bubbles at him which he roared with laughter at and proceeded to pop. With yellow ducks in attendance this all made for some beautiful and fun photographs.

Baby Photography – capturing those little moments, movements, things that baby does. So very precious as you may find in time to come that they’re still doing these things. My son, at 21, has been known to fan out his hands in his sleep, as I remember him doing on day 0 of him arriving. Luckily I have images of him doing that, and they’re beautiful!
And little movements. My son regularly used to touch his ear in wakeful times and sleeping. This is a thing he still does when a little unsure of himself, and is actually something his Dad does too. Unconscious, and now everyone knows!!
Does your baby have little quirks that you love that you’d like to have captured in a Professional image?
If so please contact me here for more details and to arrange your newborn shoot.
